French Bread
The other day I went to a seminar of the Food Nanny's. She is an amazing women who has a great food plan idea for the every day house hold. She gave us 2 recipes. This was one of them.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 C. warm water, divided
1 1/2 Tbsp. active dry yeast
2 tsp. sugar, divided
3 1/4 C. flour
2 tsp. salt
Melted butter, for brushing on loaves, optional
In a small bowl combine 1/2 C. warm water and the yeast and 1 tsp. of the sugar. Cover for about 5 minutes. Mix together the rest of the ingredients and add yeast mixture. Mix unit it forms a smooth ball. Knead. Cut the dough in half and form into 2 long baguettes. Score the loaves down the middle. Cover with a dish towel for about 30 minutes.
Bake in a 450 degree oven. Place a shallow dish of water in the bottom of the oven to create steam. Bake for 15 minutes. Brush tops with butter.
This is great sandwich bread.
