My grandma used to make this all the time while serving Sourdough Pancakes. So, I still love it because it has an emotional tie to it.
In a pot on the stove add:
2 C. water
2 1/2 C. white sugar
1/2 Stick butter
Boil for 10 minutes
Add:
1 Tbsp. vanilla
Serve over pancakes or waffles.
It is thinner than regular syrup, but even more delicious.
If you would like it thicker you can add a mixture of:
1/4 C. water & 1 Tbsp. corn starch.
Boil it while stirring and it will thicken.
